On the 9th of June every year for the past 35 years, Uganda has observed National Heroes Day, commemorating those who fought alongside Museveni in the jungles of Luwero.

The day serves as a platform for reminiscing about the bush war and honoring the sacrifices made.Former Kadogo were among the attendees at the event, pleading with Museveni to improve their living conditions.

For instance, a former Kadogo based at the Kampala old Taxi park implored Museveni to provide him with a new Kamunye, to which the president assured assistance.During this year’s 35th Heroes Day celebrations at Mpenja Church of Uganda primary school playgrounds in Gomba District, Museveni bestowed 53 medals.

Noteworthy among the awardees was Sheikh Mohammed Bin Maktoum Bin Jumah Al Maktoum from the United Arab Emirates, who received the prestigious Distinguished Order of the Crested Crane 1st Class Medal.

However, a video has sparked mixed reactions, showing Rev Bishop Micheal Lubowa of Central Buganda requesting a new vehicle from Museveni, citing the approaching 2026 and the deteriorating condition of his current vehicle.

“President after the prayer, allow me to inform you that they’re many things we think you can handle if you allow me tell you PS my few words to you but my vehicle is now old and it won’t complete 2026 and as you know we are entering 2026, May God bless but give us the PS and we tell him her our requests”- said the Man of God.

The bishop’s plea has drawn criticism from opposition politicians, questioning his integrity to condemn corruption while soliciting favors from the government.

Politicians especially from opposition have lashed at the Man of God who has been the Anglican Church Bishop for Central Buganda since January 2017 when he was consecrated and normally every Bishop receives a brand Land Cruiser from government whenever on the day they’re consecrated reportedly to ease their pastoral work.

“Without shame, Rev. Bishop Micheal Lubowa requests Gen. Museveni for a new vehicle, reminding him that the 2026 election is close. This is what the dictatorship has done to Uganda. How is such a person expected to condemn corruption and oppression on God’s people by the same regime he begs for favors?”-Posted Bobi Wine.

Despite opposition, Bishop Michael Lubowa was elected as the new Bishop to replace Rev Bishop Jackson Matovu in Gomba. Some Christians opposed Lubowa’s election, citing concerns over his suitability for the position, given his lineage to the Diocese Pioneer Bishop George Ssenabulya.

Christian communities in various dioceses, including Kigezi, Luwero, and Namirembe, have increasingly expressed dissent against bishops elected by the Anglican’s House of Bishops, leading to significant divisions within the church.
