Speaker Anita Among is once again in the spotlight, not for securing another substantial funding for Corporate Social Responsibility, but for ridiculing a fellow member of parliament during a parliamentary session.

While attempting to remind the speaker of her promise to initiate a debate on parliamentary corruption after Easter, Lwemiyaga County legislator Theodre Ssekikubo encountered staunch opposition from Speaker Anita Among.

Amidst the exchange, Among rebuked Ssekikubo, emphasizing that parliament is meant for serious matters, not trivialities or topics found on social media.

Ironically, she seemed to forget her previous efforts to extend parliamentary sessions to discuss and ultimately censure Mityana Municipality legislator Francis Zaake in 2022, based on social media reports.

In support of the speaker’s stance against discussing corruption in parliament, Kazo legislator Dan Kimosho accused Ssekikubo of involvement in land grabbing, even suggesting that such matters, which have resulted in loss of lives, should be addressed by parliament.

Undeterred, Ssekikubo requested the removal of Kimosho’s allegations from the official record, citing potential damage to his reputation.

In a widely circulated video on social media, Among dismissively encouraged Ssekikubo to speak his mind, further raising concerns about her leadership style, which appears to belittle fellow MPs without regard.

Despite Ssekikubo’s efforts to present meaningful arguments, Among continued to mock him. This has left people wondering how the speaker runs the house like her own home and belittling fellow MPs without remorse.

Ssekikubo’s pleas to the speaker that what he wants to say has sense, she continued throwing jibes at him. This was the second time Speaker Among is strangling any debate on corruption and misuse of tax payer’s money in parliament.

The first attempt by Leader of Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi and this very MP Theodre Ssekikubo were met with comments like the “I can talk about matters of social media cooked by homosexuals”.

Additionally, Among has blamed homosexuals for holding her accountable in Bukedea and accused a former speaker of orchestrating her troubles. In Buyende, she referred to Kadaga as an adversary, further highlighting her confrontational approach to governance.
