Ever since Bobi Wine dismissed Nyendo Mukungwe MP Mathias Mpuuga from the influential position of Leader of Opposition, tensions have engulfed the National Unity Platform (NUP), the leading opposition party in Uganda.

The decision by the NUP leader led to Mpuuga’s replacement with his protege Joel Ssenyonyi, the Member of Parliament for Nakawa West. The abrupt change stirred immediate unrest within the party, as Ssenyonyi sought to assert his independence and distance himself from his predecessor’s controversies.

Shortly after, allegations surfaced on social media claiming that Mpuuga and other parliament commissioners, aligned with the ruling party, had misappropriated ugx500 million. In response to these allegations, Bobi Wine publicly demanded Mpuuga’s resignation.

A meeting convened by Bobi Wine’s faction within the party condemned Mpuuga, instructing him to refund the money, step down from his parliamentary role, and issue a public apology. This internal strife dominated political discourse in Uganda until fresh allegations surfaced involving Ssenyonyi.

Reports suggested he had received ugx1.7 billion to allegedly suppress investigations into irregularities at the Civil Aviation Authority. Despite CAA’s silence on the matter, Ssenyonyi faced mounting scrutiny and legal action.

He countered by filing defamation charges against journalist Dean Lubowa Saava, who had propagated these accusations.Saava remained steadfast, claiming to possess evidence that would substantiate his claims in court.

The ensuing clash between Ssenyonyi and Saava diverted attention, momentarily easing pressure on Mpuuga. Meanwhile, scrutiny intensified over Ssenyonyi’s financial resources, including allegations surrounding his property in Kyanja and ostentatious activities in Ntinda.

As a prominent figure in Ugandan opposition politics and spokesperson for NUP, Ssenyonyi found himself navigating a precarious position. Bobi Wine, concerned about the party’s image amidst these allegations, expressed frustration over what he perceived as mishandling of the crisis by Ssenyonyi.

The party’s longstanding criticism of the judicial system further complicated matters, particularly when Ssenyonyi resorted to legal recourse against Saava.

This website has now been briefed by a reliable source that Bobi Wine is frustrated with the melodramatic scenes staking his LoP and spokesman in the mud of corruption. He fears NUP is going to get stained with these allegations, and believes Ssenyonyi mishandled his own public relations crisis.

If they went to court and Ssenyonyi wins, what will they ever say about Ugandan courts. And if he loses, the world will believe Ssenyonyi is indeed corrupt and so are all allegations against NUP bosses who have been cited in corruption accusations.

The unfolding events have raised doubts about the integrity of NUP’s leadership, potentially tarnishing the party’s reputation. With uncertainties lingering, all eyes remain on the outcome of Ssenyonyi’s legal battle and its implications for Uganda’s political landscape.
