President Yoweri Museveni has commended Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja for her exemplary leadership and forward-thinking approach.
Museveni, speaking on Thursday, cited these qualities as key factors in his decision to appoint her as Prime Minister in 2021.Addressing a gathering of district councilors at the National Leadership Institute (NALI) in Kyankwanzi, the president also disclosed that his selection of Nabbanja was influenced by empathy towards the challenges she had faced in her home district.
According to Museveni, Nabbanja approached him for support after encountering opposition from leaders in Kakumiro district.
“In appointing her as prime minister, she had faced resistance in her local community,” Museveni revealed.
“She stood up against district leaders who had implemented roadblocks to collect taxes, resulting in a physical altercation where she was injured.”
Despite the adversity, Museveni reassured Nabbanja, drawing a parallel to the suffering of Jesus Christ.
“I reminded her not to be disheartened, as even Jesus endured hardship before ascending to heaven.”
Since assuming office, Museveni expressed satisfaction with Nabbanja’s dedication and cited her initiative in inviting councilors to Kyankwanzi for leadership training as a commendable example.
“Prime Minister Nabbanja has provided a fresh perspective to governance. I commend her for organizing this retreat, which aims to enhance your leadership skills,” he remarked.
In a memorable statement from 2021, President Museveni likened the current cabinet under Nabbanja to “fishermen,” defending his choice by drawing parallels to Jesus Christ’s selection of disciples.
“Just as Jesus chose fishermen as his disciples, I have assembled a cabinet comprising individuals with diverse backgrounds,” Museveni explained.
“While some may lack formal education, they bring valuable experience and dedication to the task at hand.”
Museveni emphasized that, like Jesus, who also included intellectuals such as Luke among his disciples, his cabinet reflects a balanced approach to governance.
