The Minister of State for Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs, Hon. Kyofatogabye Kabuye, has called for the resignation of Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, holding him responsible for the ongoing disorder in the city.
Speaking candidly, the minister expressed his frustrations over Lukwago’s management, questioning his capability to lead Kampala effectively.
“Lukwago should actually be the first person to resign as the Lord Mayor,” Kyofatogabye stated.
“I wonder where he finds the audacity to walk around with his head held high amidst all this chaos in the city. He should be grateful to all of us who have helped him maintain a good image despite him being a bad person.”
These remarks followed the recent dismissal of several Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) officials, a move that the minister deemed long overdue.
According to a post by NTV Uganda on X, Kyofatogabye argued that much of the city’s turmoil stemmed from Lukwago’s neglect of his duties, accusing him of focusing more on activism in Katonga than the city’s needs.
According to the minister, if Lukwago dedicated even five days to working on Kampala’s issues, significant progress could be made.
“Ninety percent of Lukwago’s time is spent on activism in Katonga. He comes to pick up fuel and allowances and then drives back to Katonga. If only the Lord Mayor could spend just one week—five days—focused on his duties, perhaps he would accomplish a lot more”, he said.
