Kimaanya-Kabonera MP Dr Abed Bwanika has slammed NUP’s Robert Kyagulanyi over the feud with Charles Peter Mayinga and Matthew Mpuuga. At Pascal Ssekasamba’s burial, Dr Bwanika accused Kyagulanyi of orchestrating attacks on the leaders.
While speaking at a burial of the late Pascal Ssekasamba, a brother to late Mathias Nsubuga Birekeraawo, a former MP of Bukoto South and DP’s Secretary General, Dr Bwanika accused Mr Kyagulanyi of masterminding politically motivated attacks against the two leaders.
“If we are doing politics, let each of us respect another. Stop attacking Katikkiro [Buganda Kingdom Prime Minister]. I want you to look at me Mr Kyagulanyi, I have never done bad to you. Those people attacking us are your people. Stop killing our leaders. The Mpuuga you are attacking is a leader just like you,” Dr Bwanika told Mr Kyagulanyi as some mourners heckled at him.
The burial turned political, with NUP supporters calling Dr Bwanika a “snake” when he threatened to send them away. Dr Bwanika accused Kyagulanyi of failing to control his supporters who attack leaders. The microphone was taken away from him as the heckling continued.
When Kyagulanyi spoke, he apologized for Dr Bwanika’s remarks. “We shouldn’t fight over small issues. Our main enemy is President Museveni,” Kyagulanyi said.
Kyagulanyi reminded Dr Bwanika that he contributed to his election as MP and assured Mpuuga that he holds no grudge against him.
“I’ve not met Mpuuga yet, but I don’t have a problem with him. I don’t hold any grudge against him.” Kyagulanyi asked for prayers, saying he faces opposition from within and outside his party.
“I’m fighting the dictator with one hand and my own party members with the other. I don’t know when I’ll be defeated, but I need your prayers,” Kyagulanyi said.
He urged his supporters to behave well, adding that it’s not his problem if people don’t love him. The burial started with a mass led by Kyanukuzi Parish Priest Fr Henry Kasule, who advised politicians to reject bribes from dictators.
Nyendo-Mukungwe MP Mathias Mpuuga was not given a chance to speak. The widow, Evelyn Nakku Ssekasamba, thanked her late husband for the life he gave her and their children, urging them to trust in the Lord. The late Ssekasamba was laid to rest at his ancestral home. Different dignitaries graced the burial.
