Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba faces a legal action surrounding the transformation of his MK Movement, with lawyer Hassan Male Mabirizi initiating legal action, citing procedural non-compliance. Mabirizi insists on adherence to the Political Parties and Organisations Act, asserting that the movement should have undergone registration with the Electoral Commission.
In a well-attended gathering in Kololo, the MK Movement underwent a substantial rebranding, giving rise to the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU). The PLU, while aiming to instill a sense of good citizenship among Ugandans and maintaining a non-partisan stance, is criticized by Mabirizi as “criminal,” with allegations of specific Penal Code Act violations.
Stressing the importance of political organizations registering with the Electoral Commission, Mabirizi considers pursuing a criminal case against Mercy Kainobwisho, the Registrar General of the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB). He argues that the transformation of a private company into a political organization without EC involvement is unacceptable.
It’s noteworthy that the PLU, responding to Mabirizi’s legal threats against the Registrar General, underscores its commitment to non-partisanship, non-denominationalism, and non-sectarianism in its mission to revive patriotism.
This legal clash marks not the first confrontation between Mabirizi and Gen Muhoozi Kainerubgaba. Another pending lawsuit accuses the general of various offenses, including scandalous conduct and being a common nuisance. The alleged involvement of Gen Muhoozi in an illegal public rally in Bukedea District, alongside Speaker Anita Among, ministers, MPs, and supporters, further complicates the ongoing legal proceedings. The intricate web of legal disputes underscores the complex nature of the evolving political landscape.
