Leaders within the National Unity Platform (NUP) in Entebbe Municipality have launched a campaign to recall their area Member of Parliament, Micheal Kakembo, from his parliamentary seat.

According to a post on the X handle of Daily Monitor on Saturday, September 7, 2024, this move is based on accusations of his alleged failure to effectively represent the interests of his constituents. This call for his recall has sent shockwaves throughout the political landscape in the area, with local NUP leaders determined to challenge Kakembo’s performance in parliament.

However, Micheal Kakembo has dismissed these allegations, describing the recall effort as politically motivated and driven by fear. He believes that the party leadership is behind the move, attempting to undermine his work and prevent him from carrying out significant reforms.

Kakembo claims that the push to remove him is linked to his involvement in preparing a private member’s bill, alongside Mityana South MP Richard Lumu. This bill seeks to introduce new procedures for electing the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, among other reforms that aim to change the internal dynamics within the legislative body.

Mr. Kakembo further argues that this proposed bill could create waves within the NUP, as it would potentially alter the current system and challenge the status quo.

Meanwhile Among the People eyeing Kakembo’s seat is the Current Makerere University Guild President Lubega Nsamba. He also happens to be Mathias Mpuuga’s Son (According to the Ganda Culture). However Vincent Lubega Nsamba, has been under fire for his silence on issues affecting the students’ community at the university.

Despite his recent trip to America , where he met with Makerere University alumni in the diaspora, Nsamba has been criticized for his lack of action on pressing student concerns. It was also revealed how he was facilitated with over Shs 50 Million just for the trip .

Now, as he eyes the Entebbe Municipality MP seat, many are questioning his ability to represent the people of Entebbe when he has failed to effectively represent the students of Makerere University. Nsamba’s decision to run for office has been met with mockery, with many wondering if he is ready to handle the responsibilities of a Member of Parliament.

“Can he represent the people of Entebbe when he has failed to represent us, the students, he is enjoying Millions of money monthly from the First Lady Kataaha?” asked one Makerere University student.

“He has been silent on our issues, and now he wants to go to Parliament? It’s a joke.”

Nsamba’s opponents are capitalizing on his perceived weakness, arguing that his failure to address student concerns is a clear indication that he is not ready for the MP seat. Meanwhile, incumbent MP Michael Kakembo, who is facing a recall campaign, is seen as a more experienced and effective leader.

As the debate rages on, Nsamba remains silent, fueling further speculation about his ability to lead. Will he be able to overcome his critics and prove himself as a capable leader, or will his silence be his downfall?
