Responding to recent revelations, President Yoweri Museveni has vowed to expose and thwart opposition leaders engaged in presenting Ugandans before international human rights commissions with false claims of torture by the ruling government.

This commitment follows Moses Ssimbwa, a resident of Jinja, disclosing that he was enticed by opposition figures, including Robert Kyagulanyi, Kizza Besigye, and Mugisha Muntu, to fabricate allegations of brutal torture during the 2021 elections.

Ssimbwa, previously featured on November 17, 2022, at the Uganda Human Rights Accountability Conference in Nairobi, asserted that the opposition, promising to cover his medical expenses as a recognized accident victim, manipulated him to tarnish the government’s image. Contrary to his initial claims, Ssimbwa admitted that he was not subjected to torture by the government.

Addressing the matter, President Museveni underscored the administration’s awareness of opposition tactics and assured the public that these deceptive practices would be exposed in due course.

He highlighted the opposition’s history of deceit, aiming to portray the regime as unscrupulous, citing instances where they falsified torture victims. The president emphasized the necessity for a comprehensive investigation into such instances to safeguard the truth and uphold public trust in the government’s credibility and integrity.
