Kawempe North Member of Parliament (MP) Mohammad Ssegirinya, who has been undergoing extensive medical treatment at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi, has been discharged and given the green light to return home.

Ssegirinya had been in the hospital for nearly six months after being diagnosed with cancer and other undisclosed ailments. Before being taken to Kenya, the MP was first rushed to Nsambya Hospital, where he received initial treatment.

In a video circulating on social media, Ssegirinya, who appears visibly frail, expressed gratitude for being able to return home.

“I have been discharged, and I am heading home,” he stated.

Alex Luwemba, Ssegirinya’s personal assistant, disclosed that the doctors have advised the MP to take three months of bed rest under medical supervision before resuming any work-related activities.

“The doctors have told him to rest for three months before going back to work,” Luwemba revealed.

Since his release from Luzira prison about two years ago, Ssegirinya has been in and out of the hospital, battling lung diseases, hypertension, skin cancer, and other complications.

In mid-last year, he was rushed to Germany and later transferred to Amsterdam UMC Hospital in the Netherlands, as his condition had worsened beyond management in Uganda.

He was discharged from Amsterdam UMC Hospital in September, after undergoing treatment for various ailments.

However, his health condition deteriorated a few months later, leading to his admission to Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya, where he remained until his discharge last evening.
