Twaha Kagabo, the distinguished Member of Parliament representing Bukoto South, and Jimmy Lwanga, the notable representative of Njeru Municipality, both influential personalities within the National Unity Platform (NUP) opposition party, have publicly declared their endorsement of General Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s latest endeavor, the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), formerly recognized as the MK movement.
Addressing a sizable assembly at Saddler Lane in Naguru, a suburb of Kampala, during the grand unveiling of PLU, Kagabo asserted, “I proudly align myself with the MK movement, a fervent supporter of the NRM party, and I am contemplating joining PLU in the foreseeable future. This decision stems from a thorough evaluation within the PLU, driven by my dedication to its principles.” Kagabo expressed reservations about continuing his political journey with NUP, characterizing it as a faction struggling to achieve political success.
Similarly, Lwanga echoed his support for PLU, declaring, “Although I entered parliament under the NUP banner, today marks the realization of a dream.” He underscored the importance of ensuring ongoing services for his constituency through PLU and conveyed confidence in General Muhoozi’s leadership.
Michael Mawanda, a central committee member and Igara County MP, clarified that PLU operates as a non-partisan, non-denominational, and non-sectarian organization. Contrary to misconceptions that the MK movement was solely General Muhoozi’s personal endeavor, Mawanda emphasized its foundation on principles extending beyond any individual, with the initials MK representing Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
The PLU launch received official endorsements from various ministers, including Godfrey Baluku Kabbyanga, the Minister of State for National Guidance; Frank Tumwebaze, Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries; Harriet Ntabazi, State Minister for Trade; Margaret Muhanga, State Minister for Primary Healthcare; Haruna Kasolo Kyeyune, State Minister for Microfinance; and Diana Mutasingwa Kagyenyi, Minister of State in the Office of the Vice President of Uganda. The event showcased a significant display of support from diverse political figures within the growing coalition of PLU.
