Musician Edirisa Musuuza, widely recognized as Eddy Kenzo, recently disclosed that he was never formally registered as an official member of the renowned Firebase crew, led by Bobi Wine. Kenzo clarified that his affiliation with the group was primarily due to his close relationship with Mike Wine, rather than any official endorsement or acceptance by Bobi Wine himself.

Reflecting on his tenure with the Kamwokya-based music collective, Kenzo underscored that his association with Firebase predominantly revolved around Mike Wine, and he was never officially inducted into the group by Bobi Wine, particularly considering that their connection began after the success of his hit track “Yanimba.”

Despite the informal nature of his involvement with Firebase, Kenzo expressed appreciation to Bobi Wine for granting him access to studio resources that facilitated the creation of pivotal songs in his career.

In addition to his ties with Firebase, Eddy Kenzo has forged an impressive musical path characterized by international acclaim and visibility. As the founder and key figure of Big Talent Entertainment, Kenzo’s influence transcends Uganda’s borders.

His breakthrough came with the release of the 2014 single “Sitya Loss,” accompanied by a viral video featuring the talented Ghetto Kids. Subsequently, Kenzo has released four albums, including “Roots” in 2018 and the more recent “Made in Africa” in 2021, contributing to his expanding global fan base.

Kenzo’s musical talent has earned him numerous awards on both national and international stages. Notable achievements include winning a Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Award in 2018, securing a prestigious BET Award in 2015, and receiving multiple accolades at the All Africa Music Awards.

In a significant milestone, Kenzo’s collaboration with Matt B on the track “Gimme Love” garnered him a Grammy nomination for Best Global Performance in 2022. The song’s success resonated on the U.S. Afrobeats Billboard chart, reaching number 36 in November 2022.

The apex of Kenzo’s musical journey was celebrated at the Eddy Kenzo Festival held at Kololo Airstrip in Uganda, attracting an audience of over 20,000, including dignitaries such as Uganda’s Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja.

As the first Ugandan artist to win a BET Award in 2015 and subsequently receive a Grammy nomination, Eddy Kenzo continues to blaze trails for African artists on the global stage, solidifying his legacy as a pioneer in the music industry.
