Opposition Leader Mr. Joel Ssenyonyi demonstrated profound empathy during his recent visit to Kawempe North legislator Muhammad Ssegirinya at Nairobi’s Agha-Khan Hospital, where Ssegirinya has been hospitalized for nearly two months. Contrary to unfounded social media speculations about Ssegirinya’s health, Mr. Ssenyonyi reassured the public of the opposition’s vigilant oversight and pledged to present a comprehensive report in Parliament.
Accompanied by Chief Whip Mr. John Baptist Nambeshe, Mr. Ssenyonyi expressed gratitude to Ssegirinya’s family, particularly acknowledging his mother, Ms. Justine Nakajumba, for their unwavering support. He provided assurance that Ssegirinya is steadily progressing on the path to recovery, emphasizing the indispensable role of prayer in the legislator’s healing journey.
In addressing broader concerns about Uganda’s healthcare facilities, Mr. Nambeshe advocated for increased investments in the healthcare sector to improve working conditions for the nation’s skilled healthcare professionals. He highlighted the dedication of Ugandan doctors overseeing Ssegirinya’s care in Kenya, underscoring the urgent need for enhanced medical facilities within Uganda.
Ms. Nakajumba earnestly appealed to the public, especially social media users, to refrain from spreading baseless death rumors, emphasizing Ssegirinya’s imminent return to his constituency duties. She expressed gratitude to Parliament for its steadfast support during this challenging period.
Ssegirinya, who was previously detained for over a year in Luzira prison on charges related to machete killings in greater Masaka, initially sought medical treatment in Germany and the Netherlands before being transferred to Kenya. His health concerns post-release, including reports of lung problems and skin-related infections, have heightened apprehension within the community, underscoring the imperative need for collective understanding and support.
