Following yesterday’s briefing to the minister regarding the performance of Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) candidates, UNEB and the Ministry of Education have now made the results public, available in the usual manner.
From the proceedings at State House Nakasero, notable points emerged. There was an uptick in candidates achieving Division 1 (D1), along with a decrease in the failure rate, with nearly 329,939 (95.9%) now eligible to advance to higher levels following their UCE exam success.
The released results indicate that out of the 361,695 candidates who undertook the UCE Exams last year, 64,782 (17.9%) attained Division One (D1), showing an increase from 13.5% (46,667) achieved in the same grade last year.

Furthermore, 85,566 candidates (23.7%) secured Division Two (D2), 83,454 candidates (23.1%) attained Division Three (D3), while 112,923 candidates (31.2%) reached Division Four (D4), and 14,879 candidates (4.1%) did not pass the exams.Out of the 364,469 candidates who registered for the exams, 180,471 (49.5%) were male, and 183,998 candidates (50.5%) were female.
However, only 361,695 appeared for the exams, with over 2,700 candidates absent from the examination rooms.Consistent with previous years, female candidates outperformed males in English language, while in other subjects, males showed stronger performance, particularly notable in History, Geography, Sciences, and Commerce.

These results mark the conclusion of the old curriculum era. The Ministry of Education will soon outline a strategy for transitioning from lower secondary to upper secondary education under the new competence-based curriculum.
Nevertheless, UNEB is offering a final opportunity for candidates wishing to retake or sit for the 2024 exams under the old curriculum on a district level. They can register and sit for the exams under the old curriculum in June, with the first exams under the new curriculum scheduled between October and November 2024.
Very good.
Congratulations to everyone of them
