Police have detained a woman after a disturbing video surfaced online, showing graphic abuse of a young child. Stella Namwanje, a resident of Binyonyi A in Nyendo-Mukungwe division, Masaka has been arrested for defecating and urinating on the baby before feeding him the waste.

In a brief and disturbing video clip that quickly went viral, the woman appears to engage in severe abuse, reportedly defecating on the child and later attempting to force the child to consume what is believed to be her urine. These actions, captured on video, have drawn sharp condemnation from the public, with viewers expressing shock and outrage over the incident.

In the footage, the child is visibly distressed, wailing as the suspect proceeds to smear feces on the young victim. The scenes have sparked widespread calls for justice, with many demanding severe penalties to deter similar acts of abuse in the future.Police confirmed the arrest on Sunday.

Maureen Atuhaire, the commissioner of the Police’s Child and Family Protection Department, stated that the suspect was apprehended in Nyendo, Masaka, following swift investigative efforts. Atuhaire added that the woman involved is allegedly an acquaintance of the child’s mother.

The investigation is ongoing, and police are working to collect evidence necessary to support legal proceedings against the suspect.As part of the ongoing investigation, authorities are gathering witness statements, including testimony from the child’s mother and other potential witnesses who may offer insights into the circumstances leading up to the incident.

Additionally, the suspect will undergo a medical examination, a standard procedure to ensure comprehensive evidence for the case. Police aim to complete the case file with thorough documentation of all available facts, statements, and any additional evidence that may assist in the prosecution process.

The video’s release has led to strong public reactions on various social media platforms, with citizens expressing anger and disbelief.

“She is sick!” remarked one social media user, echoing the sentiments of many disturbed by the nature of the acts depicted.

Another user labeled the incident as “the work of Satan,” emphasizing the public’s profound discomfort with the video’s content.Uganda has witnessed similar incidents in the past. In March 2021, a woman was arrested in the Lwengo district after a video emerged showing her abusing a five year old child.

The offender in that case received a two year prison sentence, although some members of the public voiced disappointment, believing that the sentence was not severe enough given the nature of the abuse.

This recent case has intensified calls for stricter penalties for child abuse offenses. Public sentiment largely supports the imposition of harsher sentences to prevent a repeat of such disturbing incidents and to reinforce the gravity of child abuse in Uganda.
