Tragedy has struck again on the roads of Uganda as another fuel tanker overturned and burst into flames at Kyanamira Trading Center along the Kabale-Mbarara highway in Kabale District.
This latest accident has left the driver severely injured and sent shockwaves through the local community, reminding many of the deadly explosion that recently occurred in Kigogwa Trading Centre.
According to Mr. Wilson Mucunguzi, the officer in charge of traffic police in Kabale, the tanker’s driver was quickly evacuated to Kabale Hospital in critical condition. However, the driver’s assistant, known as the “turn man,” is feared to still be trapped inside the burning truck.
Thankfully, no residents in the trading center were harmed, as local authorities acted swiftly to secure the area and keep bystanders at a safe distance. The accident occurred on a section of road frequently used by trucks transporting fuel and goods to neighboring countries, such as Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
This tanker, believed to be headed towards one of these destinations, reportedly veered off the road and overturned, sparking a fire that quickly engulfed the vehicle.
A video shared by Daily Monitor on X captured the scene, showing large plumes of thick black smoke rising into the sky as bystanders kept their distance from the raging fire. The dramatic footage serves as a powerful reminder of the dangers associated with fuel transportation and the tragic accidents that can occur in an instant.
This devastating incident comes just days after another tanker explosion in Kigogwa Trading Centre claimed the lives of 16 people.
Many had rushed toward the overturned tanker to collect leaking fuel, disregarding the driver’s urgent warnings to stay away. Sadly, the tanker exploded, leading to a massive fire that took the lives of both bystanders and those in the vicinity.
